The Salt Lake School for the Performing Arts was approved by the Salt Lake City School District as a new charter high school for students who are passionate about the Performing Arts; Music, Theatre or Dance. The school opened in the Fall of 2006 and is located on the campus of Highland High School. SLSPA students attend their traditional core classes at Highland High School and their performing arts related classes at the Salt Lake School for the Performing Arts on the Highland High School campus.
There are no tryouts, no auditions and no tuition! The final student body is selected through an open enrollment process and lottery. Please explore our website for more information about our school.
What grades does SLSPA serve? Grades 9-12
Is there a lottery? No. When our admissions reach 450 a lottery will be initiated.
Are students required to pay tuition to attend SLSPA? No, it is a public school in the Salt Lake City School District and is free to attend
How many students will be enrolled at the school? The number of students enrolled will be limited to 450

Do students attend classes at SLSPA and Highland High School? Yes. The core academic classes (English, Math, Science etc) are taught at Highland and performing arts classes take place at SLSPA
What is a charter school? A non-traditional public school founded by community members, usually parents, but funded by the government.
Do students need to maintain a certain GPA to be in the school? No, however, students must maintain a 2.5 GPA overall, a 3.0 GPA in performing arts classes and have excellent attendance to participate in productions, school and extracurricular activities.
